I've died and gone to Mt. Bedford!

Today I walked around my new neighborhood and participated in my area's annual Mother's Day House Walk, where people could walk around and go inside 7 historic houses in my area.

Most of the houses were buit in the 1890s and they're huge! The tour cost $40 and I took it by myself. I wanted to pull my Samantha doll out of my backpack but I didn't have the courage. Except for the first house which is a museum, people still live in these houses today! Most of them are worth around $1 million or more! I felt like I could have been right there in Grandmary's house, playing dolls with Samantha and Nellie.

After I left the last house I drove around and took some pics of some of the other houses that look like they should be on that tour.

Post what you think. I know not all the houses are elaborate at Samantha's but they're still quite fascinating! Enjoy!

WOW! Those houses are beautiful. I have always wanted to do a walking tour of old historic houses, but I missed the one my boyfriends mother always goes on. They live in area that was settled in the 1700's and the old creepy houses are everywhere! I'll just have to wait till next year.

Those are such pretty houses! The tour sounds like a lot of fun. I'm curious about the picture of the AG books though. Are those yours? Or were they in one of the houses? [img]smile.gif[/img]

Oh-when I was in the first house that was lived in, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to take pics inside the houses. Anyways there was a girls room and I saw the AG books there and was thrilled! I also saw a locked AG diary on top of a dresser. I didn't see any dolls though.

Wow! That's some neighborhood. Are all of the houses in that area mansions like that or are they mixed in with some regular-sized houses, too? How fun it must have been to actually get to see the inside...that chandelier was incredible!

My sister and her husband have a Victorian, and they are in the process of renovating it. She has been on the hunt for the perfect dining rooom chandelier for almost two years. I should tell her to take a look at your picture! That chandelier would be perfect in her dining room! LOL!!!!!

My sister's house is more in line with a Victorian farm house, though. [img]wink.gif[/img]

When I was growing up, one of my best friends lived in a old Victorian. She later moved, and the house is now used as an office building! It is a landmark in our town, however, and is kept in a gorgeous state.

Next door to that house, is where another friend lived. I knew him mostly in HS. I spent a lot of time at his house, and that house was a Victorian mansion. His parents later moved, and now that house is a bed and breakfast. It makes me sad. I miss going to both places. I remember the second house having a fire place in every single room. It was the most beautiful place, but so large that his parents couldn't afford to furnish all of the rooms!

By the way....his older brother is a personal physician to President Busch!
